Ponies, ponies, ponies!

So, I bought a DIY Princess Luna for myself because she's my favorite pony, but the more I looked at her, the more like Princess Cadance she appeared. So... I made her into a Cadance.

She sold for $28 on eBay. I was hoping to sell her for more but so it goes. *shrug* The buyer, however, asked me to custom make another pony of my choice from a list. After researching them I chose Snowdrop. A very cute, blind, little filly that gives appreciation to winter. She sold for $25.

I made a second Snowdrop and it sold to a woman in Poland for $32.99. Score!

Then I made a Button Mash, which is a fan based pony and has no real connection to the HUB show. He sold for $25.

I have other customs that I'm working on and currently (10/22/13) Princess Celestia is listed on eBay for $60. She was a lot harder to do. Involved some cutting and significant Apoxie sculpt to the mane and tail. She had holes from cutting away the hair that needed patching. She required a lot of coats of white paint since she was originally purple. I put glitter on the hair and had to get gold paint. I think she took me a month-and-a-half to finish. Of course I work and have a two-year-old girl to watch also so that takes a lot of my time up.

I made iPhone 5 covers but the Pinkie Pie one didn't hold up like my test one so I gave up on selling those. I may still make one for a friend because I can fix any problems with that easily. (Won't be a pony design though)

I just started making Tumblers. I have made one for myself; Luna, of course. And I made a Twilight Sparkle one. I just happened to have the right rhinestone colors on hand. I'm not finished with TS. There are still some holes to fill and I have to fill it out: looks thin on the points, but we'll see. Mine is still holding up so hopefully they're not failures like the cell cases.

Two ponies are of my own creations. I am almost done with a custom Day of the Dead pony for a friend of mine. I also made a blue butterfly/fairy pony-just cuz it was pretty!

I do take custom order ponies. I can copy a G4 or make one based on a theme/color you have in mind. Or you can follow my seller page on eBay: Dark_elephant. I don't post very often so you can also follow my Facebook page at Dark Elephant Designs. (FB is more likely to have pics before here)

Alright! Catch ya next year! 😜

Abby Bominable Pony (NFS)

I finished my first My Little Pony custom. I fell in love with the Mattel dolls called Monster High because of one particular doll: Abby Bominable. Daughter of the Yeti. Mostly, it was because she came with a pet Wooly Mammoth. :) But she's still one of the coolest. Below is my instagram collage. I hope you like her.

As you can see, she is a glitter blue with purple eyes. I glued fake eyelashes on her and gave her light purple eyeshadow. She has a Monster High tattoo cutie mark on her right hip and a Monster High skull under her left eye. I made her fur boots and a fur headband by cutting up a teddy bear. Her hair was colored with Sharpie markers in strips using blue, purple, and pink. I realize now that you can't see the blue stripe, but it's there. In the middle picture on the right, you'll see a belt, which I took off the real Abby and put on the pony. The pony doesn't wear it, I had to give it back to Abby.

Since this is my first custom pony. She is NFS (not for sale). As I come across more ideas and time to make them, perhaps some will have a $ next to the heading. Keep checking this blog. I'm making dolls too and those (if they turn out well) might sell.

My first BJD

In my last post I stated that BJD's (Ball Jointed Doll) were too expensive and I could only dream about owning one.

Well...

I bought this one:

Her name is Ani and she is a Kid Delf made by Luts.

She doesn't come with the wig or the clothes. I had to find her other things and I bought her a brown staright-hair wig (similar to the images but with bangs). She is currently being made now and I have to wait up to 45 days for her due to the weather in South Korea. Apparenntly the resin casting and face up (also known as make up) can be held up. There's a disclaimer that fatal flaws (yes, they said fatal) can happen during the casting if it's raining and there's too much moisture in the air. Also the paint for the face up can be difficult for the artist, I guess.

So, she was ordered from Luts.co.ltd. Their website is www.eluts.com if you're interested in looking at what they offer. They have fair prices considering some other dolls out there. Iplehouse has beautiful dolls but ones I could never afford. In March/April, when she's complete, I'll post my images instead of the site's so you can see the clothes I bought her.

(I'm a little obsessed, currently)

Here are her dimensions:

* Tall : 36cm (head included : 41cm) 1/4 scale
* Girth of neck : 7.9cm
* Width of shoulders : 8.5cm
* Lenth of "from shoulder to wrist" : 13.5cm
* Girth of wrist : 4.7cm
* Girth of waist : 15cm
* Girthof hips : 19cm
* Lenth of legs "from hips to ankle" : 22cm
* Girth of ankle : 7cm
* Foot size : 5.7cm

She also comes with random 16mm eyes. I have no idea what color I'll get but they're not too expensive and I'll probably have a couple colors on hand to choose from before she shows up.

I'm super excited to own an authentic Korean BJD. And I hope one day to order a 1/6 scale boy and say she has a little brother. I just haven't found one that I love as much as this doll.

...::*** *** *** ***::...

On a more direct note to the cause of this site, I am currently working on a G4 My Little Pony DIY and making it into Abby Bominable from Monster High. I have work done on a Monster High Ghoulia to turn it into a Trixie Lulamoon. I have ideas for turning a Draculaura into Octavia. I'm still working on my Horses of the Apocalypse Blind Bag ponies and Dr. Who (Tenth and Eleventh) Blind Bag ponies. I also started a Basic MLP, turning Cherry Berry into Big Macintosh.

I actually have like no time for any of this. I just do it when I feel like it, so if it seems like forever before any doll pictures gets posted--that's why. I also write novels, by the way. (See Blog list on sidebar) Fitting that into the mix with a one and a half year old is also a challenge.

Lastly, the doll listed on the sidebar - Dr. Emmaline Brown, Ph.D. - is my steampunk doll. She's reminds me of Dr. Emmett Brown from Back to the Future. Christopher Lloyd's character. You know who I'm talkin' about. She has some alterations that I need to fix to her hand-made dress and I have to complete the embellishments on her hat. I'm not redoing her face. I like it the way it is.

Anyway... I'm going to go stare at my pictures of Ani now and think about how cool she is and where I'll keep her in my room.

September 28, 2012

Welcome...

This is the world of my dreams and imagination. I have loved Sculpture forever and as Fine Arts graduate, I have mostly dabbled in clay. Recently, (Sept '12) I have painted MLP and then got myself hooked on collecting Monster High dolls. Credit for this site goes to my sister who said, "You should paint creepy faces on all my old porcelain dolls." To my own dismay, they're already creepy enough. They don't require any assistance from me.

Therefore, I found dolls that have wigs and can be easily dyed with RIT, or any other fabric dye, and started making more affordable, smaller versions of Ball Jointed Dolls. You can find them online from Korea, Japan, or Europe and spend anywhere from $200 to $500.

My dolls are OOAK, meaning One Of A Kind. I only make one of any particular doll and you cannot find it anywhere else but here. Everything is handmade. Nothing is as it was when purchased. These are fantasy dolls and do not share any likeness to real people, living or dead, or are copies of characters from anyone elses imagination. Any likeness is coincidental and of the viewers own experiences and mind-set.

Hope you enjoy the dolls and you can always search in the upper left hand corner for dolls by name or item number. If you are interested in buying one please email me at ElephantStorm@gmail.com.

Thanks for looking!
